Brrrr Michigan

Sunflower seeds cracked corn and grain
Nutritional mix that’s nothing but plain
Filled to the brim of the cute little feeder
Left covered under the tree to keep out the rain
Thistle seeds, millets and chopped up nuts
For Finches, sparrows and cardinals
In a feeder near the bushes

Flitting Sparrows and Pretty blue jays
Robins, Hummingbirds  and chickadees
Sing and dance to the drumming of the wood pecker
And the loud flapping of the grackles
Thistle seeds in the feeder
Which sits by the bushes
For the bright yellow finches

Roller coaster flights, hanging upside down
Peck at the seeds with their tiny beaks
The finches fly erratically, year after year
To get to the south before the winter sets in
But no matter where they  go
No matter how much they try
As cold as it is up north, they realize
Brrrr Michigan's where their heart is, just like me!
And fly right back home, and erratically so.
