Tough parenting?Not really!

The news recently showed a women who was caught on a car wash camera spraying her toddler with a high pressure car wash hose in the face and legs at close range. The mother was later arrested for child abuse and the child was sent to her grandmothers until further notice. The women said that she was displining her child and that she had done it before with a spray bottle. A witness said that she only noticed what the woman had done after she saw it on the camera but she had heard the mother yelling at the girl saying that she will respect her, she is her mother. The car wash worker also said that the pressure of the water coming out of the hose is strong enough to cause marks similar to a rug burn.

To me this seems a little harsh as a punishment. I don't believe hitting a child is the best way to teach them a lesson. Especially if your trying to teach the kid not to hit his sister. I've had a few friends whose parents hit them and all that was accomplished was putting a sense of fear and anger in them, not respect.

Although I can't say that I would never spank my child , at this point in my life I don't think spanking is a good lesson either. Some people use the excuse that they have to spank the child because they are too young to understand what they did wrong through words....So are they supposed to understand why they are being hurt???I fail to see the logic in that.
